GDPR - Facebook, Google - Already in Trouble?
The GDPR, or General Data Protection Regulation, a law aimed at regulating data protection and privacy for those living in the European Union (EU), took effect on May 25, 2018. Hours after the law took effect at midnight, Facebook and it's subsidiaries WhatsApp and Instagram and Google LLC, targeting Android, were sued, alleging violations of Article 7 of the GDPR, which covers Conditions for Consent.
The article prohibits the bundling of services with the requirement of consent. In other words, the user is supposed to have the choice to agree to data usage without losing access to the service.
